Frequently Asked Questions

Terms:

Foos- Dispite its common use to describe a dead ball, to foos is actually to serve the ball.

Dead Ball- A dead ball is a ball that cannot be reached by any play figure. See Rules: 7. Dead Ball for what to do in this case.

DYP- DYP stands for Draw Your Partner. This is a common way of playing doubles when the skill levels vary, and the interest of the group is just to get in some play time. This draw can either be completely random, or weghted to keep the better players from getting drawn together.

BYP- BYP stands for Bring Your Partner. This is a common way of playing doubles during a large scale tournament. When there is a BYP doubles tournament, there will typically not be a DYP tournament, or if so, it will be considered warm-up.

Extended Tournament- An Extended Tournament is one in which the matches take place over a longer period of time. CMU's Intramural Tournament is an example of an Extended Tournament. In this case, often one or two matches are required each week of each team for a set period of time. Once this "Round Robin" style of play is over, the data from these matches is counted and a regular single or double elimination bracket is created to either be played on one day, or over a continued extended tournament.
